Antonio is Here!

I woke up about 5:30 in the morning, but I thought I might just have a stomachache. After trying to lay back down for 20 minutes or so I woke Rob up and told him I thought I might be having contractions. I sent Jill a blackberry messenger message asking if she thought I was in labor. Rob also called his sister. Teeter said we should call the nurse on call. We decided it was about time to go to the hospital. I called Courtney and my mom and told them it was time. I told them to hang out at home till we got checked in at the hospital.

I took a quick shower and shaved my legs, no way was I going to the hospital without doing that! Then I put on some makeup and grabbed the last few things that we hadn't packed in the bag. Throughout this time the contractions were anywhere from a minute 15 seconds to two minutes apart and lasted about 30 seconds. By the time we got in the car to leave I told Rob that a natural attempt was being thrown out the window, I was getting an epidural ASAP. By the time we got to the hospital I thought I was going to die!! Checking in seemed to take forever.

The first time the nurse checked me I was dialated to a 5. I asked the nurse right then about an epidural. She called them right away. The epidural nurse was mean and told me they weren't going to give it to me if I didn't stop moving. Having a contraction every 90 seconds kind of kept me squirming with pain unfortunately. Rob kept trying to get me to do the breathing that we'd learned at childbirth preparation class, but I pretty much sucked at it.

Not too much later the anesthesiologist came in. He had a thick chinese accent and said, "Hi, I'm Dr. Chi, I'm here with your happy juice."

I thought I'd be scared of the needle, but I was more scared of the contraction pain so the needle didn't phase me. After the epidural the next contraction was half the pain. The next one was barely any pain. The next one was no pain at all. My labor and delivery nurse said Dr. Chi gives his epidurals differently so they kick in faster and deaden your lower half faster. She said it's fine on smaller people like me, but much harder when it's a bigger person that they have to move around for hours. That was what shocked me about having the epidural. It was like being paralyzed. Very odd.

After I got the epidural I was able to relax a little. I spent some time updating facebook and texting my friends.

My mom and Courtney got there after the epidural. My mom was glad because she said she wouldn't have been able to handle seeing me in pain.

Even though the epidural helped a lot, Antonio had shifted some and I started having really bad back pain. Rob helped me through it.

Courtney got this picture of Rob holding Antonio's first outfit.

Pretty soon my dad showed up.

We couldn't get a hold of my brother. He had his phone turned off. My grandpa went to his house and knocked on the door till he woke up. Then my dad told Chad that I was going to be delivering Antonio in the next 5 minutes. I don't know why he said that! Chad rushed up to the hospital.

The next time the nurse checked me I was at an 8 and my water broke. The next time I was at a 10. After I was a 10 we had to wait because my Dr was at another hospital doing a surgery.

We really loved our nurse, Katy.

Everything was all ready for Antonio. We just needed Dr. Lopez to get there!

Dr. Lopez called when she was on her way to have me start pushing. We kicked everyone out of the room except Rob and Courtney. I started pushing around 10:55. On the second push they told me he had lots of hair. That gave me strength! I was so excited! The doctor finally arrived and I pushed for about 5 more minutes after she got there and delivered the little guy at 11:38.
