5 Months Old

Dear Antonio,

You are 5 months old! I can't believe how fast the time as gone by. I can't believe how big you are getting. It seems like it was just yesterday that your Daddy and I brought you home from the hospital. You were so tiny in your carseat and we couldn't believe that we were parents.

Sometimes we still can't believe that we are lucky enough to be your parents. Daddy was just saying to me at breakfast last week, "He's our boy. That's our son. Can you believe we are parents?" We were at Dianne's. The same breakfast place that we used to go to when we were first married. We would talk about having kids someday. And now we get to take you there with us!

You have changed so much in the last five months. I wish I had written a letter to you every month, but I'll just have to start now. Here are some things about you at 5 months old.

-You like to touch my face while I feed you. Sometimes you are gentle, but sometimes you scratch my face and grab my nose and pinch it. I love having your little hands touching my face.
-You hold your head up and look around. Your favorite thing to look at are lights. On Sunday, Daddy hung up my Mickey Mouse wreath and you were in your swing staring at it. I looked over and you had grabbed the side of the swing to stop yourself so you could get a better view at the lights.
-You sleep almost all night. You usually go to bed between 7:45 and 8:30. Sometimes you cry a little bit, but you settle down and fall asleep after about 10 minutes. You sometimes wake up at midnight to eat and then one more time at 3 or 4. Mommy is so happy that you are sleeping better.
-When you sleep, you like to roll onto your side. You look so cute all curled up on your side.
-In the morning, you wake up and play in your crib. I hear you on the monitor babbling to yourself. When I go peek at you, you are playing with your feet.
-When I go in the morning to get you out of bed, you have a huge smile for me. It makes my heart melt. I love seeing you smile! Every morning I sing, You are my Sunshine while I get you out of bed.
-Your Daddy is so proud of you. He always says, "He's a beast!" That means that he thinks you are great. He also always says that you are the most perfect baby ever. He loves you so much. He loves having tummy time with you. I love coming home and seeing the two of you playing on the floor.
-You love bathtime. You like me to pour warm water on you. If it gets near your face, you stick your tongue out and try to lap it up. After bathtime, you cry while getting dressed. I know you are cold and I hate making you cry.
-You just rediscovered your tongue and you stick it out all the time.
-Your smile is so cute. I have a special noise that I make that makes you smile everytime. I could just sit and watch you smile all day.
-You just discovered your feet and you love to touch them, play with them, and stick them in your mouth. You prefer not to wear socks so you can put your toes in your mouth.
-You like to chew on your hand. Sometimes you stick your hand so far in your mouth that you gag yourself. Silly boy!
-You drool all over the place. You have to wear a bib all day so that you don't soak your clothes.
-You will sit and play in your exersaucer, lay on your play mat, sit in your chair or lay on the floor by yourself for about 10 minutes now.
-You like to sing songs with me. Your favorite songs are the ones that have actions like The Wheels on the Bus and Pat a Cake.
-You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you so much Antonio!
